I am all about that protein…

The number of protein products on the shelf is growing each day – I’ve seen protein bars, protein chips, protein pancakes, protein crackers, protein powders… it appears we are all talking about protein these days! It is no wonder either, protein proves to be good for your skin, bone, nails, muscles, cells and overall function of the body.
Some of the many benefits of protein include:

- Less hungry = lower calorie intake.
- Less belly fat.
- Improved immune system.

Did you know? Your body doesn’t store protein like it does carbohydrates and fat? There is no reservoir, and the amino acids from the protein are used to break down food! This is partly why protein is great for building muscles and maintaining weight.
Protein comes in a variety of sources including milk, eggs, nuts, soy, fish, meat, vegetables and beans. One of the simplest, yet still effective ways to consume protein is in a powder. Since I do not eat dairy, I cannot have whey protein powders. Instead, I enjoy plant protein powders, like Orgain Protein Powder.

My simple berry recipe is:
- 1/2 cup blueberries
- 2 scoops Orgain Protein Powder
- 1 cup pineapple
- handful of ice
- 1 cup milk of choice (almond, coconut or dairy)
Blend up all these ingredients for a delicious smoothie!
