I am not brave in ANY way-shape-or-form! I do not have a good pain tolerance. In fact, no pain tolerance at all. Heck, I whine for hours when I stub my toe! So why in the world would I want to be awake and have my cornea cut by a blade and a pulsing computer-controlled laser vaporize a portion of my mid-section cornea called the stroma? … Otherwise known as Lasik Eye Surgery?
Because I absolutely hate wearing contacts and hate wearing glasses even more. I’ve been wearing a combination of contacts/glasses for about 8 years now… and I can’t stand it anymore!! I hate how flying drys my eyes out and how contacts stick to my eye. I hate refilling my silly 3 oz. bottle of solution when I fly because of regulations on liquids. I hate when contacts get that little rip in them and your eye is itchy and irritated all day long. I hate buying contact solution. I hate going to the eye doctor yearly, just to have him tell me my eyes keep getting worse. I hate when I forget my contacts or glasses when driving and feel like I am going to run somebody over on the sidewalk (warning: scary driver without vision!) I hate how glasses leave an indent on my nose bridge. I hate how glasses keep getting eaten by my dog. (true story). Whew… sorry I needed to vent my dislikes because I am still trying to convince myself to be brave about my Lasik Eye Surgery and not pass out looking at the picture.
So, I have been toying with the idea of Lasik eye surgery for about 3 years now. I had to wait for the right time, because they don’t suggest getting it done before age 25 (eyes still growing). I have done loads of research on procedures, Lasik surgery centers and talked to many people with first hand experience. I feel like I am as educated as I can get. Next I made some consultation appointments. I had two in one day… my eyes were dilated for over 6 HOURS! Talk about being a scary driver… I was wearing two pairs of sunglasses as I drove from one Lasik office in Denver to the other!! My pupils were HUGE!! I wish it was as simple as the consultations.. but no, then you have to actually make a Lasik appointment.
I wrote down pros and cons about the different Lasik Eye Surgery Centers. Do I want surgery where John Elway had it done or the Avalanche Hockey team? Medical assistants that wear dresses with high heels or medical scrubs? Lasik surgeries only scheduled once a month or a center that can get me in the next day? Seriously these places were night and day. I needed some time to think.
2 weeks later: I decided to call the office that I had the better feeling about and ask them if there was any negotiation in the price that I was quoted. The lady was super nice and said she would pull my file and call me back. When she called me back, she offered a discount of $200 off my quoted price!! I have NEVER negotiated ANYTHING and was thrilled that I asked! I guess it really never hurts to ask! Now there was nothing stopping me… I got the right place and now I got the right price. So, here I am with an appointment today… nervous, anxious, excited and…. more nervous!! Please pray for my surgery to go well!
