I know this is crazy, but the “sloppy joe” sandwich was never on my radar until I met my husband. I am not sure how I went through my childhood (and a portion of my adulthood) without really understanding the term “sloppy joe” or tasting one of the messiest sandwiches around but unfortunately… I did.
*gasp* right?
So now when the opportunity arises, I am all in… all juicy red sloppy fingers in.
This week, I got the chance to get real messy with the hearty and delicious Manwich sauces from Hunt’s.
I tried three Manwich flavors – Original, Bold, and Thick & Chunky. And I should note, each can of Manwich is free of artificial flavors and preservatives, and offers a full serving of vegetables.
So, since I will never be able to re-live my missed “sloppy joe” childhood, of course I had to make the classic “sloppy joe” for lunch using the Original Manwich sauce. I mixed it with some hamburger meat and loaded it on a freshly cut loaf of bread… Results? Absolutely satisfying.
My next Manwhich meal I made (again with hamburger meat), this time in a stuffed pepper recipe. I followed the instructions on the can (cook hamburger meat, mix in Manwhich). I loaded the mixture in a pitted bell pepper. I filled the hollow bell pepper about 1/3 full of the mixture. Then I added refried beans and cheese until the peppers were fully stuffed. I baked the stuffed peppers in the oven for 30 minutes at 375, covered. Then baked an additional 5 minutes uncovered. I served with fresh lettuce and tomatoes. It was like a taco stuffed in a pepper! Honesty, this recipe is so easy and so good, it will be repeated again and again!
With my last can of Manwich, I desired something a little less messy (on the hands at least), I used the Manwich Thick and Chunky sauce in a batch of chili. Hamburger meat, onion, tomatoes, peppers, and beans… then I gave the chili some extra piazza the Manwich sauce. The sauce added some succulent flavors. Again, another easy meal using the Manwich!
