In a recent study I read, shopping was rated one of the top happiness-inducing activities. Some other activities on the top of the list included intimacy, going to parties and volunteering.
I was not surprised by this study compiled by Carsten Grimm from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. Especially because the least happiness activities were some that I also agreed with, like being sick, studying and commuting.
So when it comes to shopping, I (and obviously thousands of other people too) agree that it brings out happiness and joy in our lives. Now why is it that shopping brings out happiness and pleasure? Well, I think some of it has to do with shiny, new things. Then it is also the satisfaction of working hard for your money, and getting a reward for your work, in terms of a physical product. For me, it is the said above and knowing that I got a bargain!
