If you are anything like me, shaving your legs takes a lower priority in the winter than it does in the summer. One reason shaving is less likely is there are just fewer opportunities where I flash that much skin. But probably the biggest reason of all for not shaving – is how dry my skin gets after I shave, especially in the cold dry weather.
But (there is always a but) I just discovered something that might change my winter shaving tendencies. Pure Silk with Aloe Moisturizing Shave Cream for women.
Okay, I know shaving cream for women has been around for awhile now. But I have never used it. I kinda thought it was one of those unnecessary extras. But if it can truly keep moisture in my skin even after I shave, it is worth looking into.
I reviewed the Pure Silk Shaving Cream in the Citrus Zest. It was a whole new experience using shaving cream instead of soap. It is more fun to lather up with a glob of cream and I love the smell! The shaving cream made it easy to shave and not miss any spots. It also left my legs more smooth and more moisturized than when just using soap. But, I still did have to use my regular lotion afterward. Pure Silk is by Barbasol, a trusted shaving cream brand. In fact, I set my new Barbasol Pure Silk can right next to my husband’s Barbasol can. And the Pure Silk can is awesome – it has no edges so it is an entirely rust-proof aluminum can! I can keep it in the shower and not worry about the rust stains!
Pure Silk is available in drugstores and mass market stores nationwide for a suggested retail price of $1.79.
And just for fun I thought I would mention some interesting OTHER ways you can use shaving cream:
Clean Your Hands
The next time your hands get dirty on a hike or camping trip, save that water for cooking and drinking. Squirt a little on shaving cream into your hands and rub just like liquid soap. Then wipe your hands off with a towel, ta-da!
Prevent Bathroom Mirror Fog-Up
Before the shower, wipe some shaving cream on the bathroom mirror. It will prevent fogging so you won’t waste time waiting for the mirror to clear up! No more peering through wipe streaks created by your towel!
Remove Stains from Carpeting
If juice gets spilled on your carpet, put some shaving cream on the spot. Blot the stain, pat it with a wet sponge, squirt some shaving cream on it and then wipe clean with a damp sponge. Use the same technique on your clothes for small stains. I haven’t tested this, but if you do, let me know!
A squeaky door hinge can be annoying. Annoying can end with some shaving cream. With its ability to seep into nooks and crannies, a little shaving cream on the hinge will cure the annoyance!
Skin oils can build up on your combs and brushes, they also accumulating dust and dirt as well. First, comb any loose hair out of the brush, then rub a little shaving cream around the bristles or along the teeth of the comb. Put a small squirt of shaving cream in a tall glass of water, let the comb and brush sit for a few minutes, swish and rinse clean thoroughly. Cool, eh?
