Do you love the spa? Wouldn’t it be great to do all of the spa special treatments at home?
Okay, there are some things I don’t think I would want to do at home, (waxing? botox?) but when thinking about an at home microdermabrasion – maybe?!? I received the opportunity to review and at home microdermabrasion and I will be straight up – I had a few apprehensions!
So first off the definition of Microdermabrasion, also referred to as mechanical exfoliation or micro-resurfacing, is a cosmetic technique that uses a mechanical medium for exfoliation along with adjustable suction to remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells from the epidermis.
Would you ever consider this? Let me explain why I did!
So although it is a non-invasive procedure, it is a little nerve racking – I mean you are working on your face (something that is hard to hide!). You are using a spinning and suctioning product… and do I need to go on?
To relieve some of the nervousness Skin Care RX included a DVD in the package. Watching the DVD is an absolute must. It is about 8 minutes and is one of those necessary cheesy tutorials, but hey I do not rely on myself for the first time!! After reviewing the video and the included pamphlet, I was still slightly uneasy, but went for it… because this is what a product reviewer does!
The PMD – home microdermabrasion system includes:
- 1 personal microderm,
- 5 exfoliating discs (2 green and 3 blue)
- 1 electric cord
- 1 facial cap, 1 body cap
- 1 reusable filter
- Instructional DVD and Pamphlet.
- So, the product comes with five exfoliating discs, in two different sizes, one for face and the other for body. The discs also come in two grit types – the green is medium grit for more aggressive treatments and the blue had a sensitive grit. I used the blue, sensitive-moderate grit for testing!
- It was easy to set up the device and the discs. I turned it on, held it on my skin, and continued to move the product – as advised by the video! I focused on my nose, forehead and outer face areas – where my skin feels tougher than around my eyes, chin and cheeks! The feeling is a bit odd, I didn’t know what to expect. It is not painful, but it lightly suctions and there is some pressure. After the treatment my skin felt puffy and was red! This didn’t last more than 40 minutes. So don’t do the treatment if you are about to walk out the door!
The dead skin cells that it removes it impressive! The immediate skin results I can tell is my skin feels smooth and soft. This product does seem like a good alternative to the expensive treatments that would typically by done by a professional in the spa. I found it easy to use after spending some time reading and watching the video! The actual treatment was fast and smooth. My skin was not irritated (beyond redness) after the procedure. One suggestion I would make it to moisturize the night before, otherwise your skin will most likely feel dry.
I recommend the personal microderm for those who want a cheaper alternative – ($179) to save money at the spa, and for those with skin problems (like early texture changes, sun damaged skin, skin buildup, acne, etc).
