Stain resistant carpet? I’d never heard of it. That WAS until I visited the License To Spill booth at A Taste of Colorado this past weekend.
It was Labor Day weekend, and what a better way to spend it than… carpet cleaning? Oddly enough my weekend was amazing – even though I spent a 1/2 day cleaning and learning about carpet cleaning tips! Surprisingly, I had a blast doing it. Why? Because I got to PURPOSFULLY spill on the carpet!
A Taste of Colorado was a lot of fun, and visiting the Mohawk carpet demo booth was a highlight for sure! I had fun meeting Chuck Nice from HGTV’s Home Strange Home and VH1’s Best Week Ever and communicating with the Mohawk carpeting crew. Did you know Mohawk Flooring is the largest flooring manufacturer? Oh, and I cannot forget to mention the FREE burritos with green chili from Sam’s No. 3. were a huge hit! My husband couldn’t stop talking about them!
But the real action at the booth began when I picked up bottles of bright blue Kool-Aid, Soy Sauce and Red Wine. I took those super-stain making liquids and tried my hardest to make a mess of Mohawk’s Stain Resistant Carpet.
Why would I do that? So I could test the SmartStrand Silk Carpet capabilities! It passed the test that is for sure!!
Those nasty stains didn’t stand a chance on this magical carpet.
So is this stain resistant carpet going to change the lives of moms, maids, and carpet-stain cleaners everywhere? Maybe, just maybe!
But it had to pass my home test first!
I tested 3 SmartStrand carpet samples at home. I figure there would be no bias opinions that way. I took nacho cheese sauce, chili and soy sauce and spread them on the carpet. Then they sat. Then they got rubbed in to make an overstatement.
So how’d they do?
HOME TEST RESULTS: Using JUST WATER – the cheese sauce came out with a little rubbing, the soy sauce bleed out quickly, and the chili sauce came out, but left a greasy residue. I then tried to get it out with some dish soap, it was a little better, but finally used a carpet cleaner spray and it was out in a jiffy. I think the grease was the issue.
Now, while it is pretty unrealistic that you would spill a cup full of chili on your carpet and then proceed to grind it into your carpet… spills do happen! Not only do spills happen, but more prevalent is foot traffic dirt over time. SmartStrand is supposed to protect against that!

I was pretty impressed with SmartStrand, it did fabulous on some bad stains and was ordinary with the grease stain. There wasn’t the need for a lot of excess scrubbing or rubbing. No need for fancy carpet cleaning machines or chemicals on the stains. The permanent stain and soil resistance coating could come in really handy for all those messes!
I am laughing hysterically because a kid just sprayed soy sauce all over his mom’s face! 😉
WHY STAIN RESISTANT?
While most carpets have some sort of stain treatment that is applied topically to the carpet fibers, SmartStrand carpet has protection built into the fibers themselves – and that is how stains come out so much easier! Say goodbye to looking up “carpet cleaning tips” online, SmartStrand Stain Resistant carpet just needs water and a rag – simple carpet care!
Now if only Mohawk Flooring used their SmartStrand technique in all of my clothing… wouldn’t that be nice?
