It is Earth Month and Earth Day is on April 22nd! Do you find yourself being more conscientious of recycling, reducing and reusing during the Earth Month awareness festivities?
I sure hope so. Because it takes everyone to keep the earth beautiful!
Glad trash bags are well aware that they are mainly used for trash purposes. But they have other uses too!
As a part of this campaign, I was encouraged to think of new ways to use Glad trash bags, instead of their obvious purpose of holding trash! I was given the Glad® ForceFlex® black bags (25 count) to test out. With the sturdy diamond texture of the bags, the uses are endless. The first thing I thought of was heading to our basement and getting it a little more organized. The bags were great for storing sleeping bags, blankets and other soft camping supplies. The drawstrings on the top allowed for me to close them and move them to the other camping supplies area. These bags are available in 30-gallon and 33-gallon sizes, large enough for plenty of storage!
Just because Glad is known for trash bags, doesn’t mean they’re the environmental bad guys. They do their part in remembering the earth too! For example, Glad® Black Bag is turning trash into works of art.
Um what?
Alright, so basically, they teamed up with the acclaimed artist Jason Mecier to create custom artwork from the would-be trash of Hollywood stars, (Like: actress Amy Smart, actor Jesse Eisenberg, reality star Lauren Conrad, actress Emmanuelle Chriqui of “Entourage,” Nick Offerman of “Parks and Recreation”, actress Megan Mullally, Dancing with the Stars’ Chelsie Hightower, and “iCarly’s” Nathan Kress.)
He took celebrity trash and repurposed the trash in a stylish way, to make really, really, really cool works of original art! Check out the Mess to Masterpiece Art Auction. Here are some of the upcycled pieces:
Jason Mecier Original "Wild Life" Bear Artwork presented by GLAD Black Bag
Jason Mecier Original "Wild Life" Raccoon Artwork presented by GLAD Black Bag
Jason Mecier Original "Wild Life" Chimpanzee Artwork presented by GLAD Black Bag
Pretty cool pieces using trash huh? I just love these pieces! Is that a croc shoe I see? A leopard print vase? I better head on over to Ebay and put my bid in… I really want that bear!

Anyone (including you!) can bid on these 4 original works of upcycled art between April 16th and 26th, 2012. The auction proceeds benefit Keep America Beautiful and its mission to engage individuals to take greater responsibility for improving their community environments. Glad Black Bag is proud partners with Keep America Beautiful and the Great American Clean-Ups across the country. They’ve helped keep communities clean for 27 years now.
Glad is encouraging you to rethink what is done with the items that get thrown out everyday. So maybe trash bags aren’t the bad guys after all! 😉
