Summer time, and the living’s easy! 🙂 Spring is almost over and summer is just around the corner… the perfect time for BBQs and dinner parties! Of course when you’re having a stellar dinner party one of the top items on the list needs to be the adult beverages!
We drink a decent amount of wine around this house and love to serve it, so of course we were naturally ecstatic to know that FlipFlop wines was sending over two of their white wines for us to try!
FlipFlop wines sent us a bottle of their Pinot Grigio and their Riesling… both vintage 2010. Now my husband and I aren’t known for being big white wine drinkers but these were pretty much perfect for a nice late-spring/early-summer day! My husband threw some chicken on the BBQ and made a grilled chicken salad to pair with the Riesling and we found it amazing!
* The Riesling’s flavor was very tasty, fresh, and had a wonderful hint of peach, apricot, and melon. It was surprisingly smooth and refreshing as we served it chilled (just as FlipFlop wines so expertly recommended!) with our dinner. We have had a Riesling with some Thai food that we’ve made in the past and I must say that I feel this wine would go perfectly with Pad Thai or Pad See-Ew! I have had too-sweet of Riesling’s in the past and really thought that I’d never go back to them but I must say, with all honesty, that I really REALLY liked this wine. Whenever we need a white to pair with some pork (or our affliction with Thai food!) I think this has moved up to my personal go-to wine!
*The Pinot Grigio was definitely a little more zesty, not as sweet, and also had some delicious fruit hints. The Pinot Grigio was light-bodied and we could definitely taste the tropical citrus and ripe pear flavor! While I more preferred the Riesling, my husband definitely liked the slightly more bold Pinot Grigio. I think we’ll definitely need to get more and have some friends over to taste this delicious variety of FlipFlop wine with some bruchetta this summer! Unfortunately we just couldn’t wait for our friends to try out the Pinot Grigio after having tasted the also excellent Riesling! Ha!
Of course, as our regular WithOurBest readers know, that price is a big factor in the items we look at! These wines are VERY reasonably priced. While I haven’t seen them in the stores as of yet, they can be purchased online (http://shop.underdogwinemerchants.com/flipflop) for $7.00 per bottle! That old mantra of a good wine is an expensive wine does not apply here! These are delicious, refreshing wines, with very complex flavors at a price that won’t break the bank! I can not wait to try their Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon and I most certainly will be going back to FlipFlop wines for my next purchase of a smooth Riesling or light-bodied Pinot Grigio! You have to give them a try!
Lastly, I want to take a moment and talk about FlipFlop as a company. In our house “giving back” is a huge part of what we do. The fact that FlipFlop has built this philosophy into their business is very commendable and really aligns them with our WithOurBest readers in my opinion! You see, for every bottle of FlipFlop wine purchased, the non-profit Soles4Souls (http://www.soles4souls.org/) will distribute a pair of shoes to someone in need! You can tell that founder David Georges not only cares about his wines (and lounging in his Flip-Flops) but also about the community and making sure to make an impact, not just on your taste buds! …but also to children in need. This is really great and something I think we can all get behind all the while enjoying some of FlipFlop wines delicious varieties!
